MID-CENTURY CHALET

Hiding behind the exterior of this 1950’s suburban chalet bungalow is a spacious and beautifully crafted five bedroom family home. Our client’s came to us with planning in place for a bold full-width extension and the dream of a unique double-vaulted undulating roof. Undaunted by the lack of architectural detail, and totally bespoke brief, we took on the task of not only designing the challenging extension but replanning the entire house, choosing to remove all existing walls and introduce a steel frame throughout to give us total flexibility with the placing of walls and where to introduce feature glazing. Using midcentury inspired materials and colours, the bespoke kitchen, built-in beds, clever storage and cherry lined windows throughout were all designed by us at Born Designers and coordinated with a team of talented tradespeople to make it happen.
